Paris Saint-Germain winger Ousmane Dembélé has been officially crowned the 2024–25 Ligue 1 Player of the Season, following a spectacular resurgence that has seen him deliver the most productive season of his career.
The 27-year-old French international has been a standout performer in PSG’s domestic campaign, scoring 21 goals and providing 6 assists in 28 league appearances. This marks a dramatic improvement from the previous season, where Dembélé managed just 3 goals in 26 matches — a statistic that had raised doubts about his role and impact in Paris.
Accepting the award, Dembélé credited a key tactical shift for his breakout form.
“Playing more centrally puts me at the heart of the game and closer to goal — it’s helped me become more composed in the box,” he explained. The comment came during a lighthearted moment as he stood next to France head coach Didier Deschamps, adding with a smile, “He still plays me out wide, though.”
Dembélé’s repositioning under PSG manager Luis Enrique has revitalized his game. Often known for his explosive pace and unpredictable dribbling on the flanks, Dembélé has now added clinical finishing and greater decision-making in the final third to his arsenal.
His recognition by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) is particularly significant in the context of his career trajectory. In 2016, as a breakout star at Stade Rennais, he was awarded Ligue 1’s Best Young Talent. Nearly a decade later, he completes a full-circle moment by earning the league’s highest individual honor.
The official Ligue 1 account celebrated the occasion by posting:
“2016: Ligue 1’s Best Talent of the Season
2025: Ligue 1’s Best Player of the Season
OUSMANE DEMBÉLÉ.”
With the European Championship approaching and Dembélé in peak form, his resurgence is timely — not just for PSG, but also for France. Once plagued by inconsistency and injuries, Dembélé has now emerged as one of the most effective and mature forwards in French football.
